Democrats are trying to scare the American people into thinking that if I am elected, the middle class will pay $2,000 more in taxes. That is just wrong, and the study that the Democrats use to support this false claim bases its findings on unfounded assumptions that have since been discredited.

The fact is that my tax plan lowers individual tax rates by 20%. I look forward to working with Congress to craft tax reform that supports the goals of a simpler and fairer tax code and reinforces my commitment to protecting the middle class. To that end, I have pledged to focus the bulk of tax code adjustments on upper income households. I will also help middle-class families – those earning less than $200,000 per year – save for long-term expenses like college and retirement by eliminating taxes on capital gains, dividends, and interest. This comprehensive plan for tax reform is an important part of my Plan for Stronger Middle Class that will help create 12 million jobs in my first term.

By its own admission, the Romney campaign isn’t “dictated by fact-checkers,” which has been obvious for quite some time. There’s no sense in rehashing all the times Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan haven’t told the truth about President Obama – their campaign strategy seems to place a premium on misrepresenting key facts and ripping the President’s words out of context to suggest he believes something other than what he believes. It has happened too often to count, and it betrays a campaign bereft of ideas.
