I am the only candidate saying that there is not a purely political solution to the crisis America faces. Mind you, we are in a major crisis and, to survive, we must make major, structural changes to our federal government. But a growing number of Americans—rich and poor alike—will vigorously oppose any attempt to bring sanity to federal budgets. Americans across the economic spectrum want their needs met as a top priority. In marked contrast, America’s framers demonstrated selflessness, pledging their “lives, fortunes and sacred honor” for our young nation. They taught that liberty can only be given to a self-governing and virtuous people. As I see it, the only way we can make a massive cultural shift toward selflessness is through another great spiritual and moral awakening such as brought healing to America in prior generations. Governmental leaders should use their bully pulpits to promote unity and selflessness.

I am the ONLY candidate not taking PAC money from corporate or trade association PACs. To me, these contributions are unseemly at best and legal bribes at worst. However, we have formed a Healing America PACT that seeks prayer and the courageous involvement of every citizen.

Pete Hoekstra voted for the $850 billion Wall Street bailout, the $192 billion stimulus bill, five times to raise the debt ceiling to $11 trillion, earmarks like the $223 million “Bridge to Nowhere,” the Medicare Part D benefit (with a $15 trillion unfunded liability), the Brady Bill gun control law, and against the American Legion’s Flag Desecration Amendment. I would’ve voted the opposite on each.

I strongly support Right to Work laws guaranteeing individual employees’ freedom to choose whether to join or financially support a labor union. Hoekstra has been endorsed and funded by Jimmy Hoffa and the Teamsters and opposed Right to Work. He even joined Barack Obama and Debbie Stabenow in cosponsoring a bill to force every state and local government in America to unionize its police, fire fighters, and paramedics.

I support term limits on Congress. Clark Durant does not. I support replacing all federal income taxes with the Fair Tax. Durant does not. I support environmentally safe onshore drilling half a mile inland and at an angle down to the $8 billion worth of oil located a mile beneath the Great Lakes. Hoekstra voted for Stabenow’s federal ban on such drilling, and Durant opposes such drilling.

I am not a career politician. I seek to restore constitutionally limited government in order to hold Congress more accountable to its limited and enumerated powers. This will check runaway spending and debt. It allows people to keep more of what they earn so more jobs can be created in the private sector.

I have spent forty years as an educator, a lawyer, a businessman, a problem solver, and a social entrepreneur creating opportunities for others in the private sector. I have challenged the status quo and conventional wisdom in order to create new things and to fix broken lives and enterprises. I am the only Republican candidate (1) appointed by President Ronald Reagan to head an agency and demonstrated a willingness to take on the spending culture of Washington and the power of special interests; and (2) who has attracted support from Democrats and Independents.

I have a proven track record in both business and public service of getting the job done and making tough decisions. From my business experience, I know what employers need from government to be successful. From my public service experience, I know how to enact the reforms that businesses need to begin hiring again. I have always been an outsider working from the inside. I have always stepped up to the challenge whether it was helping write the Contract with America, balancing the budget while on the Budget Committee, investigating the corrupt Teamsters election or reforming our intelligence community after the attacks on 9/11. Our country again is facing enormous challenges, and I am ready to make the tough decisions again and be effective from day one.
